A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that can help lift drooping or hooded eyebrows and smooth out lines on the forehead. A brow lift is sometimes done in conjunction with a face lift and/or blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery).
Anyone concerned about horizontal lines on the forehead or drooping eyebrows could benenfit from this procedure. Most patients start noticing this at age 40.The brow should be positioned right above the upper orbital rim. If your brow is hanging below that point and you are unhappy with your appearance (often having a “tired” look) , you may be a great candidate for a brow lift.
Prior to Surgery
The most important step in this process, as with any cosmetic surgery, is the consultation with your surgeon. Have an open, honest conversation with your doctor about your expectations so that both of you can make the right decision for your individual needs. The doctor will review all of the pre and post surgery instructions with you during this appointment.
This procedure usually takes one to two hours. It is done as an outpatient surgery with general anesthesia. The incision is made in the hairline between the ears and the skin and muscles are pulled back to help minimize those lines on the forehead and around the eye area. The hairline typically will hide the scar.
You will have a more youthful, rested appearance after a brow lift. Your eyes will be more open and you will look and feel more vibrant and refreshed.
Most patients will experience swelling, bruising, numbness and possible headaches. These symptoms are all temporary. You will be advised to rest the first day after surgery and most likely return to normal activities after just a week or two. Medication for pain may be advised as well as cold compresses to help with swelling. You may also be advised to keep your head elevated for the first few days post surgery.
